My Vegetable Garden
It is important to live our best life; to do so we must be aware that our habits create our health. I have shared common questions and answers and want to introduce my vegetable garden: gardening regarding planting, care and harvesting for Asparagus, Green Beans, Onion and Okra. We know eating healthy is important however, convenience is always a critical point in meal preparation and eating.
A home garden is healthy living at your fingertips! It allows you to feed yourself and your loved ones vitamins and nutrients needed for energy and wellness.
As an added bonus it allows you to be outside and active. it is a wonderful way to incorporate more family time and child education.

Tomatoes are certainly nutritious — a good source of the antioxidants lycopene and beta-carotene. But consider this: if you eat a tomato without adding a little fat — say a drizzle of olive oil — your body is unlikely to absorb all these nutrients.
Scientists at Iowa State University figured this out a while ago. They recruited graduate students to eat bowls of salad greens with tomatoes and various types of salad dressings — from fat-free to regular Italian. "Basically once a month for several months we'd show up first thing in the morning," recalls participant Gregory Brown, now a professor of exercise science at the University of Nebraska. Researchers put IV lines into the participants' veins and drew blood samples before and after they'd eaten the salads in order to get precise measurements of the absorption of nutrients.
Onions are hearty vegetables grown throughout most of North Americas climates. Onions may be grown from sets, transplants or seeds. Onions are very versatile and may be eaten raw, broiled, boiled, baked, creamed, steamed, fried, french fried and pickled.
Planting
Most onion varieties start bulb formation into one of two classes, long-day (for northern latitudes) and short-day (for southern latitudes). Varieties that are grown in the South are not adaptable to the North and vice versa. Late plantings of the suggested varieties also result in small bulbs or lack of bulbing.Okra is a tall-growing, warm-season, annual vegetable from the same family as hollyhock and hibiscus. The immature pods are used for pickling, soups, canning and stews or as a fried or boiled vegetable. The flowering plant (3 to 6 feet or more in height) have ornamental value for backyard gardens.
Planting
Plant seeds after the soil warms in the spring. Sow seeds 1 inch deep in hills 12 to 24 inches apart. When the seedlings are 3 inches tall, thin all but the one strongest plant per hill. The seeds may be soaked, wrapped in moist paper toweling or in water overnight, to accelerate germination.The green bean is a tender, warm season vegetable ranking second in popularity to tomato in home gardens. It is easy to grow with little care. The green bean is also known as a snap or string bean. These will grow from the support of a pole, fence or along the ground in a ‘bush’ form.
